Cape Wanderer ("we", "our", or "us") is a mobile travel guide app for the Western Cape, South Africa. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Location data: With your permission, we use your device location to show nearby places and distances. Location is processed on-device and not stored on our servers.
Account information: If you choose to sign in (via email, Apple, or Google), we store your email address and a unique user ID to sync your saved places and purchase status across devices.
Purchase information: We use RevenueCat to process in-app purchases. We do not store payment card details. We receive only a confirmation of purchase status.
Push notification token: If you grant notification permission, we store your device push token to send whale alerts, weather warnings, and other relevant notifications.
Usage preferences: Your travel preferences (trip style, interests, group type) are stored locally on your device using encrypted storage and optionally synced to our database if you are signed in.
Device identifier: We generate an anonymous device ID to manage your trial period and app state. This is not linked to any personally identifiable information unless you sign in.

3. Data Sharing

Supabase – database and authentication hosting
RevenueCat – in-app purchase management
Google Maps / Apple Maps – for opening directions links
Expo / EAS – app delivery and push notification infrastructure
4. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as you have an account or have the app installed. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
5. Children's Privacy
Cape Wanderer is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Security
We use industry-standard encryption and secure storage practices to protect your data. Local data is stored using encrypted MMKV storage on your device.
